9 Out 10 US Organisations Suffered Three Or More IT Security Breaches In The Last Year Research Reveals

A new report has underlined the enormity of the task faced by those operating within the IT security sector, revealing that 90 per cent of US organisations suffered from three or more security breaches last year. The study, which surveyed 201 companies, was conducted by the IT Policy Compliance Group, a consortium of security organisations backed by Symantec. It found that the most common breaches of security were caused by user error, violations of corporate security policy, and internet hacks and attacks.

“The report again underlines how security breaches are becoming the norm rather than a series of isolated incidents,” said Andreas Beierer, Director Marketing and Alliances of industrial security specialists, Innominate. “This report, published last week, makes one thing very clear: security cannot be treated as a separate silo in enterprise IT. With 70% of all companies suffering from between 3 and 22 breaches of security, the network requires an integrated approach. It should also take into account, not only the office networks, but the often forgotten production lines which are just as vulnerable to user error, violations of corporate security and internet hacks. Using an individual firewall, such as Innominate’s mGuard, is the most reliable method of securing networks against attacks on the production line. Any infiltration could have major cost implications for the whole organisation.”
