Infosecurity Europe’s Success Drives Move to New Venue

London, UK, 7th May 2008 - After 13 successful years of hosting Infosecurity Europe at Olympia and following the phenomenal success of this years show, which saw a 4% increase in visitor numbers to 12,500 (pre ABC audit), Infosecurity Europe is moving to the much larger venue of Earls Court in 2009. This year’s Infosecurity Europe showed that one area of IT budgets that is not going to be cut with any imminent downturn is information security, with a huge number of organisations flocking to the show to arm themselves with the latest technology. This view of the market is supported by analyst reports out this week which predict that the information security market will continue to grow till at least 2012 in spite of any economic downturn. The 2008 exhibitors had already booked up 75 % of the space for next year’s event at Earls Court by the end of the second day – showing that there is great support for the move to Earls court from the Industry. Claire Sellick, Infosecurity Europe Event Director said “With year on year growth which has positioned Infosecurity Europe as the most successful and largest information security event in the UK, we are now ready to move to the much larger venue of Earls Court. It’s a very exciting time for the information security industry with all the predictions for the future from the analyst community saying that it is set to grow despite any economic downturn. Earl’s Court will enable us to design an event with far more space that can be used to create more interactive theatres, discussion areas and networking forums.”

The FREE education programme once again proved to be extremely popular with standing room only in many of the seminars and keynotes. Over 100 speakers presented from around the globe including Adam Laurie, Alan Paller, Bruce Schneier, Professor Fred Piper, and Professor Howard Schmidt. Key pieces of industry research released in the Keynote Theatre included the 2008 Information Security Breaches Survey conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers on behalf of the UK Government and the (ISC)² Global Information Security Workforce Study 2008.

“Bigger and better than ever – for me the highlight was the “Hall of Fame” – great to learn from the leading lights in the security industry.”
Chris Potter, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP

The Interactive theatre made its debut this year and proved to be a great success with scenarios varying from the new wave of cybercrime, courtroom examinations of culpability, Cyberattack Special, Universally Challenged, Ask the Experts, Art of the Human Hack and the Lion’s Den.

"We invested heavily in this event and made sure that we flew in many of our senior executives which was definitely the right decision as for 3 days they were kept busy having high level discussions. We also presented an interactive keynote on the new wave of cybercrime with Professor Howard Schmidt, which had over 100 attendees and standing room only - a sell out success."
Rob Rachwald, Product Manager, Fortify Software

“This year’s event was marked by the fact that many of the exhibitors are not traditionally security companies. For example we have EADS – a services company with a background in secure solutions; F5, an application performance company which has added security to its offerings; Google, with Postini as part of its service portfolio. This is a welcome trend, as it sees security not as an isolated area of technology, but one which is (as indeed, it should be) an integral part of the IT environment.”
Jon Collins, Service Director, Freeform Dynamics

The Lion’s Den at Infosecurity Europe proved a tough panel to impress with six exciting and innovative vendors pitching products to a panel of leading buyers and experts from the Information Security Industry. The vendors were Behaviosec; Orchestria; Mimosa Systems; Passlogix; BeCrypt; Lumension, with Lumension and Orchestria being voted the most likely products to bought by the interactive audience. Orchestria was declared the winner by the panel chaired by Colonel John Doody which also included Ray Stanton, Paul Simmonds, Colin Clark, and Tony Lock; widely recognized as some of the best judges of security products in the world, and a tough panel to impress.
